There is a very common notion that if the earth was a person, we wouldn't treat them the way we treat the land we live on. Environmentally Conscious alludes to the fact that we are completely unaware of the state of our environment because we have lost touch with our natural home and we are constantly preoccupied with our daily activities. We often turn a blind eye when we see fragments of plastic outside, animals going extinct, and drastic weather changes because the amount of daily waste we produce hasn't truly crossed our minds.
Artists Kayla McEvoy and Yasmine Steele took inspiration from the personified figure Mother Earth, to draw attention to the fact that all living things inhabiting the Earth are directly affected by climate change. The artists wanted to encourage thought provoking questions by providing a different alternative to how people view the world through their use of imagery.
What if we looked at the environment as an extension of ourselves? Would we make sure our personal ecosystems are healthy and flourishing? How do we take care of our body and mind? These are some questions we should be asking ourselves when we reflect on climate change because ultimately, all living things are connected to each other and rely heavily on their ecosystems for survival. When our environment is negatively impacted by waste, so are we, and it is not until we make fundamental changes within our society's standards, that we begin to see improvement.
